GENERAL

UWEX® - metal detectors are well-known and widely respected in the world of underwater search. The compact UWEX® 722 T is a further development of the NATO service UWEX® 722 and is now based on integrated circuity built into the sealed search head.

OPERATION

The detector is designed to locate small and large objects made from iron or non-ferrous metals. It is as easy to operate as its forerunner UWEX® 722C but the new version will identify size and conductivity characteristics of the detected objects. Large and highly conductive objects will be indicated by an audio tremolo signal

UWEX 722® T can be calibrated to disregard small objects and to suppress the indication from short pieces of wires, nails etc. so that excavation of unwanted targets is reduced, which can speed up operation in clearance tasks and save expense. This is affected by the analysis of detection signals and not by reduction of sensitivity.

OPERATION PRINCIPLE

The UWEX® 722T applies the dynamic pulse induction principle which is advantageous for operation in saltwater. Short magnetic pulses are transmitted through the search head. These short magnet pulses induce eddy current in conductive objects, Causing a magnetic response signal. This is detected by UWEX® 722 T and converted into an audio signal in its single sided headset.

The audio signal increases in frequency as the detector’s search head approaches metal. This enables the diver/operator to pinpoint the target object. If the object shows a high conductivity a tremolo signature will be mixed into the audio signal.

UWEX® 722 T can detect ferrous and non ferrous metals and alloys. The limits of detection range depend on the metal character of the detection object, its size and position and the local interference. Small items (1g) may be detected at a distance of 10 to 20 cm, large items up to 1 m distance.
